Due to an internal administrative error in October 2021 firearms certificates continued to be issued by the Firearms and Explosives Licensing Unit (FELU) bearing the signature of Chief Constable Vaughan after his retirement from Dorset Police.
Out of an abundance of caution the FELU sought independent legal advice on the matter, which has confirmed that notwithstanding this administrative error the firearms certificates issued with Chief Constable Vaughan’s signature were lawfully issued and will remain legally valid until they reach their expiry date.
